Economic forecasting and medium-term budgetary frameworks A challenge for many CESEE countries, and for OECD countries generally, is how to identify fiscal space for discretionary policy action by government, in light of the requirements for professional, technical economic forecasting and rigorous fiscal discipline, including expenditure rules. The strategies for prioritising and resourcing public policies must evolve to take account of this changing environment. This introductory session will highlight latest developments in medium-term forecasting in the CESEE region, with a focus upon both technical aspects and the appropriate responses of macro-expenditure policy.
