Description
Presentation: Are United Kingdom workers and organisations prepared for an extended working life? Authors: Sudbury-Riley, L., Bennett, K., Flynn, M., Scurry, T., Sainsbury, R. and Coleman-Fountain, E., At: Aging and Society: Fourth Interdisciplinary Conference, Manchester, 7-8 November 2014. A special focus of fourth international conference on Aging and Society will be "Diversity and Aging." This focus seeks to explore the social and cultural diversity in later life in the topic areas of sexuality, ethnicity, culture, gender and health. There are two main questions that also arise in relation to diversity and aging. The first is what are the experiences of aging that tend to be marginalized in research and practice? The second is how do we challenge the ideas and concepts about the aging process and seek out new ways of understanding aging? Exploring these issues and questions will shed light on the complex and dynamic nature of experiences of aging and address gaps in existing research and knowledge. Keynote speakers include Professor James Nazroo, Professor of Sociology at the University of Manchester and Dr Sharon Wray, reader in Sociology and Associate Director of the Centre for Applied Childhood Studies at the University of Huddersfield.Period | 2 Jun 2014 → 4 Jun 2014 |
