Panel member for a discussion on transition to adulthood by the APPG for Looked After Children and Care Leavers. House of Commons, January 21st 2015

On 21st January Professor Mike Stein was part of a Panel for a discussion on: 'What can we do to help young people to develop good mental health and emotional well-being in the face of the emotional and psychological challenges they face in their transition to independence?’ hosted by the APPG for Looked After Children and Care Leavers. The discussion was held in Committee Room 10 in the House of Commons. It was attended by a large number of members of the public, at least half of whom are children and young people. The panel included Dr Maggie Atkinson, the Children's Commissioner for England; Frank Lowe, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and the Head of Social Work, Specialist Adolescent and Adults Mental Health Services at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, Cathy Gleeson, a mental health advocate from the NYAS charity and Naomi Gilchrist, a young person from NYAS. The meeting was part of the Parliamentary 'Children and Young People's Mental health and Emotional Well-being Seminar Series'. Five All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs) have come together to host a seminar series. These include: APPG for Child Protection, APPG for Penal Affairs, APPG for Children, the APPG on Learning Disability and the APPG for Looked After Children and Care Leavers.
