Carcerality, marriage and the law in South Asia and beyond

Description

Workshop leading to Special Issue in Journal

Considering Moran et al.’s (2018) proposal that the main conditions of carcerality are detriment, intent, and spatiality, this workshop aims to interrogate the complex entanglements of marriage, carcerality and the law in South Asia and its diaspora. Asking how marriage may lead to carcerality, become a form of carcerality or, conversely, engender escapes from carcerality, a central focus will be the role of the law in these processes.
