Cefas (Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science) represents the UK government’s expertise in marine and freshwater science, and spanning UK waters and UK overseas territories. CSAC provides scientific challenge and strategic input to the organisation. There are typically two-to-three two-day meetings per year, at Cefas offices in Lowestoft and Weymouth. My work involves co-authorship of Cefas Quinquennial Science Review (2017), additional periodic mini-reviews, filtering of strategic funding applications, and informal mentorship of young scientists. Cefas have been part of the last three £1M+ funding bids I have led (2017 CDT and 2019 Highlight both failed; £1.5M SMMR currently in review).
