Cosmic Harmonies: a symposium celebrating the life, science, music and legacy of William Herschel (1738-1822) on the bicentenary of his death. Included a composers' roundtable on music and science, a showing of the film William Herschel and the Universe by George Sibley, a keynote from Tom McLeish and panel of creative responses, and an orchestral concert of music by William Herschel (Herschel's Musical Worlds) directed by Claire Holden, narrated by Sarah Waltz, and also featuring music and graphics by York PhD students inspired by and responding to scientific data. All events were open to the public and free to attend - the film, keynote, panel, and concert were promoted as part of the 2022 Festival of Ideas.
