(im)possible worlds – new (im)possibilities: Research Festival of the Orpheus Insitute, 2014

Activity: Participating in or organising an eventConference participation

Description

[Abstract from conference booklet] “Impossible!”, you say. For whom? and when? And what are we to do with your assertion? A quick pass through several kinds of impossibility leads to a compact schema, a possible taxonomy, of impossibility. With that as a basis, a new proposition arises: Possibly impossibility is a legitimate objective—in composition, in performance, in research. An impossible model, possibly, can be found in Charles Ives’ numerous attempts to create a musical representation-expression-interpretation of Emerson. With luck, we will get nowhere.
