Description

Following on from our increased investment in palliative care research, we opened 2011’s Annual Research Conference to all palliative care researchers and clinicians. Held in collaboration with the Palliative Care Section of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), the theme for our 2011 conference was ‘Improving end of life care: generating the evidence to understand new services for a changing society.’ Programme Our invited speakers included Professor Paul Dieppe, Peninsula Medical School and Dr Martin Bardsley, The Nuffield Trust for Research and Policy Studies in Health Services. Professor Allan Kellehear, University of Bath and Dr Adrian Tookman, The Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust and Marie Curie Palliative Care Research Unit took part in a debate on ‘The future delivery of high quality end of life care will be about the care of friends and neighbours as much as doctors and nurses’. Research from teams across the UK was presented in the form of short oral presentations and a poster exhibition. This gave delegates an excellent opportunity to see the work currently being conducted in other institutions and to network with colleagues from different areas.
