Professor Roy Sainsbury and Vidhya Alakeson (Resolution Foundation) were interviewed by John Humphrys on the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 on 15th May 2014 about the new ONS figures showing that there has been a rise in self-employment to 15% of the workforce. Of these people it is estimated that 1 in 5 have been forced into self employment. Roy explained that part of this phenomenon was due to people on the Work Programme being advised to take up self-employment when they couldn't find work elsewhere.
