Description
Sarah Rees Jones and Paul Dryburgh acted as advisors to the theatre company, Breach Theatre, as they prepared their Christmas production 'Joan of Leeds' for perfomance at the New Diorama Theatre, London, in December 2019. The production built on the story of a nun who faked her own death and ran away from her convent in York in 1318. The story is recorded in the registers of the archbishops of York at the heart of The Northern Way project. SRJ and PD provided the theatre company with historical contextual information and primary sources translated into modern English. We discussed possible ways of interpreting the story and its significance to a modern audience interested in the history and politics of sexuality.Period | 3 Dec 2019 → 21 Dec 2019 |
