Description
The Payments Council coordinates innovation in payments with a membership of banks and other financial service organisations. Intellect plays a similar role for the technology industry. This is an annual conference for the Payments Council though it was the first time the conference had been jointly run with Intellect. It was chaired by Rory Cellan-Jones of the BBC and held in the King's Fund meeting facility in Cavendish Square. There were about 250 delegates including: banks, communication and payment technology manufacturers, consultants and some charities and local authorities. The following examples illustrate the range of organisations taking part: Accenture, Age UK, Bank of England, BT, Campaign for Community Banking Services, Capita, Cisco systems, Consult Iperion, HM Treasury, HP Enterprise Service, HSBC, KPMG, Logica UK Ltd, O2, PayPoint plc, VISA Europe. We were given an exhibition space in the area where delegates gathered for breaks and a 30 minute slot in which Andrew Monk presented a talk entitled "The Consumer View - when we are 85". This talk briefly explained the need for more inclusive products, the methods we used and featured the provocative prototypes as inventions that illustrate a need. The exhibition included demos of the Anoto Pen Electronic Cheques, lightweight third part delegation via the Guardian Angel Card and the biometric PIN reminder. This was a perfect opportunity to interest banks and payment technology providers and fulfilled all the aims we had set out in the proposal for this stage of the research. There was a lot of interest both in terms of visitors to the exhibition stand and arising from the talk which was mentioned favourably by two subsequent speakers. Following this event we are in conversation with: two companies specialising in usable security and two consultancies working on financial service solutions for older people.Period | 3 May 2012 |
