This group played a key role in carrying forward the performance management agenda for the NHS and is chaired by the Chief Operating Officer of the Department of Health. I was the only academic in this group and was invited to join by the chairman. Other members were senior NHS staff (Chief Executives of NHS organisations); senior civil servants (Senior Economic Advisers); and representatives of national bodies (eg the head of the NHS Federation which represents the interests of all NHS organisations).
