Co-organised by the French School of Public Health (Patrick Zylberman, Paris), the Joint Initiative in German and European studies of the Munk Center for International Studies (Susan Gross Solomon, Toronto) and the Institut für Geschichte der Medizin (Sabine Schleiermacher, Berlin) as the second of a series of three conferences (Toronto-Paris-Berlin), the Paris meeting brought together some ten speakers, mostly English-speaking historians, to participate in three sessions entitled: 1. /Ecology, disease and international politics, 2./Health, development, and state capacity, 3. /“Statesmen in disguise ?, 4/Expertise and political decisions/.
