Description
The USC-Huntington Early Modern Studies Institute Long 18th Century Seminar meets with Sophie Coulombeau, Senior Lecturer in the Department of English and Related Literature at the University of York. Professor Coulombeau specializes in the literature and culture of the long eighteenth century. She will discuss her new book, Reading with the Burneys: Patronage, Paratext, and Performance (Cambridge University Press, 2024) at the seminar. Drawing on approaches from literary studies, biography, bibliography, and the history of the book, Reading with the Burneys enriches scholarly understanding of the reception of Frances Burney's fiction, with broader implications for studies of gender, class, kinship, and reading in this period. All EMSI events are free and open to the public.
