Chair, Steering Committee

The Southern Refugee Legal Aid Network an international network of 34 legal service providers operating in more than 32 non-traditional jurisdictions. These organisations represent usually the largest providers of legal aid to refugees in their jurisdiction and collectively provide services of some kind to around 1 million refugees per year (or close to 10% of the world's refugees), including direct legal representation to more than 150,000 refugees. The origins of SRLAN were in the shared desire to set minimum professional and ethical standards in relation to the specific situation of refugee legal aid. It drafted the widely cited and used "Nairobi Code" (of professional and ethical standards) in 2007. The Steering Committtee is its governing body, elected by its membership.
