Description
Philanthropy has played a significant, if not entirely unproblematic, role in international development. In this talk on May 4 2017, Professor Inderjeet Parmar from City University London traced the transformation of America from an "isolationist" nation into a world superpower, all in the name of benevolent stewardship. Incorporating case studies of American philanthropy in Nigeria, Chile, and Indonesia, he discussed the involvement of the Ford, Rockefeller, and Carnegie foundations in U.S. foreign affairs. This seminar was hosted by the International Development Network in Collaboration with Professor Parmar from City University London.
