Description
Conducted a workshop 'The meaning of funeral poverty'Two workshops were held one in London on 23rd July and the other in York on 29th July. The workshops formed a small exploratory study funded by Marie Curie. The purpose was to look closely at the meaning of 'funeral poverty, a widely used concept without a clear definition, to see how far there might be agreement about its meaning, and whether it may be possible to measure key components. Targeted invitations were sent to people with expert knowledge and experience of this topic, across all parts of UK. There were 11-12 participants at each workshop, representing local and national government; the funeral industry; health trusts; campaigning and lobbying groups; academics; advice agencies; commercial business; palliative care and bereavement support services. The programme for each day was the same - a mix of guided discussions and small group work. A descriptive report of the discussions will be written in September, and made publicly available.
