The role of coastal regions in the Palaeolithic dispersals of hominin populations out of Africa has been hotly debated, yet arguments are currently underpinned by a very small body of data regarding the occupations of these regions. This talk outlines the recent multidisciplinary research by the DISPERSE project along the Red Sea coastal region, Southwestern Saudi Arabia, where investigations into the Palaeolithic occupations of the regions are being undertaken both on land and underwater.
