Description
A York delegation led by Professors Rob Marchant and Henrice Altink, representing all three faculties, visited Maastricht University on 20 May to discuss collaborative projects on the theme of the Global South, as part of the York-Maastricht Partnership. Discussions centred on shared research interest in the Global South, in particular in the areas of health, environment, emerging markets, sustainability, and migration. Plans were made for a joint series of one-day workshops to run through 2020/2021 in conjunction with a series of partners from countries in the Global South. These workshops will identify future research areas that combine expertise from the two institutions. There were also focal discussions around the use of problem-based learning (PBL) in the teaching of two new BA programmes that will start in 2020/21 – the BA in Global Development at York and the BA in Global Studies at Maastricht – leading to a proposal for a series of workshops on the use of PBL in the teaching of global challenges. Several members of the delegation who are involved in York's BA in Global Development met with staff from Maastricht to discuss PBL, a teaching method which Maastricht pioneered and which will be the main mode of delivery for the core modules of York’s new BA.Period | 22 May 2019 |
