This Modern School Research Seminar will be a lively and diverse roundtable discussion about the challenges and thrills of working with contemporary authors. Our panel will share their experiences of working with a range of authors on a wide variety of different projects, from translation to public engagement. We will give practical tips on how to integrate interviews into your research, collaborate on editorial projects, navigate publishers and publications, and manage relationships. Speakers: Dr Alexandra-Kingston Reese (chair); Dr James Williams on editing poet and librettist Alice Goodman for _History is Our Mother: Three Libretti_; Dr Lola Boorman on interviewing short story writer Lydia Davis; Dr Bryan Radley on interviewing authors in public (e.g. contemporary Irish and British novelists); Dr Nicoletta Asciuto on translating Natalia Ginzburg and Katja Perat; Prof John Bowen on working with David Edgar on _A Christmas Carol_ for the RSC.
