The Department of Computer Science has an excellent international reputation for research and teaching.
Our research is at the cutting-edge of the discipline, represented by nine research groups. They cover areas such as computer vision, artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction and non-standard computation.
We work across disciplines, with subjects including Biology, Chemistry and Sociology, and collaborate closely with industry. Our researchers also form part of the York Centre for Complex Systems Analysis (YCCSA).
The last Research Assessment Exercise (2008) saw the Department in the top ten for “research power”, with the majority of our research classed as world-leading or internationally excellent.
