Organisation profile

The Department of Mathematics combines leading mathematical research with high quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

We work over a wide range of specialised interests in the following areas:

 

Pure mathematics (including algebra, geometry, analysis and number theory);

Applied mathematics (including continuum mechanics and mathematical biology);

Mathematical physics (including quantum information and quantum field theory);

Mathematical finance;

Statistics (including both methodology and application).

 

We are involved in many national and international collaborations, including interdisciplinary activity. 

The Department has research links with Biology, Computer Science, Chemistry, Economics and Physics, and is involved in YCCSA (York Centre for Complex Systems Analysis).
