PhD projects
I'm keen to supervise PhD students on subjects relating to African Food Systems and Climate Change Adaptations in Dryland Farming Systems.
Professor Andy Dougill is the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences at the University of York. He has recently joined York from the University of Leeds where he has completed terms as the Dean for Global Development (2022), the Executive Dean of Faculty of Environment (2013 - 2021) and Head of School of Earth and Environment (2008 - 2013).
Professor Andy Dougill is an applied environmental change researcher with achievements that transcend and integrate a range of disciplines including soil science, ecology, climate services and environmental social sciences. He has expertise in leading the design and implementation of trans-disciplinary, ‘solutions-focused’ research projects on environmental sustainability and climate change adaptation and is a leading authority on developing integrated methodologies for studying African food systems and dryland environmental change. Research projects have gained significant external funding from a wide range of sources including GCRF, NERC, ESRC, Royal Society, Leverhulme Trust, EU, British Council and FCDO.
He has successfully built long-lasting partnerships across a range of African Universities and partner organisations through a strong commitment to impact, capacity building and research training and he also holds a post as an Extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria.
