Accepting PhD Students
Jiannan Yang is a Lecturer in Digital Engineering at the School of Physics Engineering and Technology (PET), University of York, UK. Jiannan obtained his first degree from Donghua University, Shanghai, China. He received his PhD in Sound and Vibration from the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) at the University of Southampton in 2012, with the support of Rayleigh Scharlorship. During his PhD, Jiannan looked at developing simulation models for railway rolling and impact noise, and developed the first model that considers real wheel profile defects. After his PhD, he has worked in the Research and Development Department of Hitachi in both Japan and the UK. At Hitachi, Jiannan worked on various rolling stock projects for noise and vibration control, including the high speed Intercity Express Trains (IET), aka IEP, that went into passenger service on Oct 2017 in England. Before coming to York, Jiannan was a postdoctoral researcher at the Engineering Department, University of Cambridge (Trinity College), where he worked in the DigiTwin project looking at improved engineering design for digital twin applications.
