Professor John Ashton is a Professor of Financial Regulation at the University of York. John’s research focuses on financial and economic regulation and the pricing of financial services. John has made contributions to a diversity of policy fora in the UK and Europe in areas of financial regulation and payment systems. 

Biography

John joined the University of York in 2021 after previously working at Bangor University, the University of Leeds, the University of East Anglia and Bournemouth University. John was a founder member of the ESRC Centre for Competition Policy at the University of East Anglia, and has been a member of the International Institute for Banking and Financial Services at the University of Leeds. John has attended the academic panel of the Competition and Markets Authority and has previously undertaken training and consultancy for the Financial Conduct Authority. John has been editor in chief of the Journal of Financial Regulation and Compliance for a number of years. John chairs the Financial Markets and Institutions group for the British Accounting and Finance Association. Prior to his Academic career John worked in the Insurance sector.
