My research focuses on the impacts of social and environmental factors on behaviour, stress physiology and reproductive success of animals, particularly birds and fish. My research group specialises in utilising state of the art techniques for measuring behaviour, antioxidant defences, oxidative damage and contaminant levels in vertebrates. Previous studies have demonstrated the downstream impacts of early nutrition, driven for example by climate-induced changes in prey abundance, on individual fitness.  Our current projects are investigating the effects of human disturbance,  pharmaceuticals in the environment and habitat management on vertebrates. My latest projects are focused on the role of wildlife in the dispersal of Antimicrobial Resistance in the natural environment.
