Personal profile

Research interests

I'm passionate about involving people in scientific research through citizen science. I enjoy working with researchers from different disciplines to support them to use citizen science and other participatory approaches in their research. I research the motivations of participants in citizen science, who participates in citizen science, and am committed to widening the pool of participants so that science is more accessible to everyone, regardless of their background.

Most of my projects have focused on air pollution or biodiversity, but I have also worked on parenting, education projects and have recently started a mental health citizen science project.

Employment History

I started working at SEI in 2008, as a Community Scientist on the OPAL project, engaging people with their local environment through a mix of co-created and contributory citizen science projects. As funding for this came to an end, I widened my mix of projects, winnign funding from a range of research councils and other funders.

After two periods of maternity leave, I applied for Centre Director at SEI York and since March 2020 have managed the centre alongside my citizen science research projects.
