Research interests
I am currently juggling two research projects.
The first is a book drawn from my PhD research examining representations of pain in contemporary African literature. This work is structured thematically and covers a range of canonical and less well-known texts from Zimbabwe, South Africa, West Africa and Rwanda, written in English and French.
Whilst in Oxford I also began a second book project exploring cultural responses to genocide memorial sites in Rwanda. This is grounded in fieldwork – I first travelled to Kigali in July 2009 and returned in January and July 2010.
In addition to this longstanding interest in literary representations of conflict and trauma I also write about race, empathy and contemporary dance.
