Project Details

Description

Remarkably little is known in detail about the phonetics and phonology of spontaneous speech. Virtually nothing of interest is known of the interactional implications of particular kinds of phonetic events in everyday talk. However, it is becoming increasingly recognised that this area is central to our understanding of language functioning and speech processing in normal and atypical communication. Techniques of Conversation Analysis, combined with parametric phonetic analysis, have begun to offer insights into this complex area.
