C2D2 Research 7a - A multi-mode high performance microplate reader for biochemical and cell based assays

This funding is being used to purchase a BMG CLARIOstar microplate reader. This new piece of equipment will allow for the simultaneous testing of many biological samples, for instance to quantify DNA or test inhibition and activiation in signalling and metabolic pathways. The apparatus will make it possible to increase throughput, minimise sample consumption and more sensitively detect changes in absorbance, fluorescence and luminescence. This in turn will permit the development of new and more sophisticated assays which will enhance research capability across a number of laboratories in the Departments of Biology and Chemistry.
