Combating depression with non-invasive modification of REM-sleep brain activity

Project: Research project (funded)Internal pump-priming

Project Details

Description

This project will develop a non-invasive REM sleep modification technology (REST) for the treatment and prevention of major depression. The PDRA will carry out cutting-edge research in York’s state-of-the-art sleep laboratory to affirm the positive impacts of REST on mood and wellbeing. These activities will dovetail with the PDRA’s other roles in developing larger-scale translational projects in patients via collaboration with Tees Esk and Wear Valley NHS foundation trust. This project will provide the crucial empirical platform for generating a novel, commercially-exploitable and cost-effective intervention for mental illness.
