Description
Creating a cross-sectional corpus of oral and written texts from Quebec elementary and secondary school students of ESL, and using corpus analysis to document Quebec ESL learners’ grammatical development.
The project has the following aims:
1. To reveal the emergence and development of different linguistic features;
2. To document the aspects of language that present challenges for communication at different points in the learning process;
3. To generate testable hypotheses concerning the contents and the timing of grammar instruction;
4. To provide reasonable expectations for the assessment of learning outcomes at different grade levels
