Description
Local Area Coordination is an approach to create networks of support around people to increase independence and reduce dependence on statutory services. It is being used in a number of areas of England. The intervention objectives include:
• Changing the way people think of support around them;
• Simplifying routes to support;
• Reducing dependency on service-based support;
• Identifying areas of high quality of duplication across service types.
The Local Government Association (via its Care and Health Efficiency Projects) has provided initial funding to City of York Council for the development of this approach in York. In August 2016 Council approved the introduction of 3 Local Area Coordinators (appointed during spring 2017).
The project supports an evaluation of the progress over 12 months (process, formative and early outcomes) of the initiative to contribute to evidence locally, nationally and internationally.
The project is funded under the ESRC Impact Acceleration Account (Co-Production Stream)
