Reverberation chambers provide an electromagnetic environment in which the statistical properties of the electromagnetic field are well defined. Typically such chambers are used for assessing the immunity of equipment to electromagnetic fields by injecting a known power into the chamber and seeing if the equipment under test observably fails or not. However, such immunity tests give no indication as to how close a particular equipment is to failing.
Previous research carried out in the group has shown that the electromagnetic field scattered by electronic equipment carries information about the extent to which the incident field is disrupting the equipment. This project is investigating whether these signs of disruption can also be detected in the statistical properties of the scattered fields in reverberation chambers.
