This is a small-scale research project in one Junior school in Yorkshire to explore the links between vision and developing literacy skills in Year 5 & 6 children (age 9 – 11 years) ie. before they make the important transition to secondary school. Poor vision in young children potentially affects their long term educational attainment, health and social outcomes (Chua & Mitchell, 2004). Yet there have been few studies examining the impact of vision difficulties on reading ability.
