Layman's description

A social sciences project focusing on megacities in the era of globalisation. The rapid growth in the number of megacities through the mass urbanisation is a major social and political issue for the 21st century, and there are particular questions about sustainability and governability.

This network will look to develop comparative theoretical frameworks and methodologies to provide greater insights into the contemporary challenge of mass urbanisation. It will explore processes under a number of key possible themes, primarily related to social policy, such as: social right and migration; housing and urban redevelopment; crime and urban violence; poverty and equality; sustainability and development; and issues of governance. It will also look to make a significant contribituion to social theory.
