Abstract

Musical setting of Pindar's 12th Pythian Ode for voice and 'Pydna' aulos, co-composed with Barnaby Brown. The composition derives rhythmic structure from accentual patterns in the poetry and melodic content from the ancient Greek scales of Aristides Quintilianus, with attention to Greek dynamic pitch accents. It has been broadcast on The Early Music Show (BBC Radio 3) and performed nationally and internationally, at venues including Yale University Art Gallery, the closing event of the European Music Archaeology Project, Nicosia, Cyprus, and the University of York.
