Abstract

As part of their Heritage Lottery funded renovation project, Hoxton Hall commissioned a new site-specific promenade audio work from Hannah Bruce and Company to celebrate the reopening of their stunning Grade II* listed Victorian Music Hall. The resultant piece – A Collection of Small Choices – is a pioneering experience for visitors that launches in 2015.
A Collection of Small Choices builds on previous collaborations between researchers from the University of York, the University of Westminster and Hannah Bruce and Company on promenade performance pieces that use mobile technology to immerse audience members in an intense, individual, sound-world and sensitize them to their surroundings.
This presentation will introduce A Collection of Small Choices and outline the opportunities, challenges, and benefits of collaboration between academic researchers and arts and culture organisations.
