Abstract
A silica supported cobalt (II) Salen complex catalyst has been successfully employed in the aerobic oxidation of alkyl aromatics at atmospheric pressure in the presence of N-hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI). The reaction is particularly selective for the oxidation of the benzylic CH2 group and the major product obtained was ketone. The immobilized catalyst can be easily recovered and reused for at least four reaction cycles without any significant loss of its catalytic activity. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
