Abstract

We present an LMDS access protocol, which features a TDMA dynamic frame, whose flexible structure is high v configurable to accommodate advanced LMDS services. A dynamic reservation multi-service access (DRMA) scheme, which allocates and shares the capacity in the dynamic frame, is put into operation for diverse LMDS applications in a common transport channel. The reservation scheme is capable of accommodating on demand mixed customised payloads and transmission rates. By means of an example we describe how the proposed protocol implements the reservation scheme, presenting simulation results. The protocol capabilities and its level of performance, for a given system bandwidth minimises contention cost, queue and transmission delays. Under the heaviest load network conditions, capacity is maximised, leading to an enhanced channel throughput.
