Archbishop Richard Scrope's Lost Window in York Minster

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

Based on the interpretation of antiquarian and documentary evidence, this article reconstructs a lost window in York Minster and asttributes it to the patronage of Archbishop Richard Scrope (d.1405). It argues that its iconographic and typological content has a bearing on our understanding of the Archbishop's conduct of his office and his motivation in opposing King Henry IV, an action that cost him his life.
