Abstract
Atomistic spin models describe a class of models which approach a discrete limit of magnetic materials, where each atom is ascribed a localized atomistic magnetic moment or spin. These atomic spins interact principally by the Heisen- berg exchange interaction, leading to long-range magnetic order and resulting in macroscopic magnetic properties. Here we review the theoretical foundations and recent developments of atomistic spin dynamics and their application to advanced magnetic materials, thermal and ultrafast spin dynamics.
