Abstract

The article was written as part of the exhibition catalogue to accompany the exhibition, 'Barock - nur schöner Schein?' at the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museum in Mannheim, curated by Dr. Uta Coburger, Dr. Hans-Jürgen Buderer, Dr. Lindt and Dr. Dagmar Eichberger. Opened July 2016. It imagines baroque and art history since late 19C Germany as lovers, in a relationship, and then pursuing illicit affairs and perhaps falling out of love. It asks whether they might now reignite their affair.
