Abstract

The last three decades have seen an efflorescence of writing about how to perform Shakespearean verse from within the theatre community. Much of this writing proposes highly questionable propositions about the subject. This article examines critically some of this writing, but then seeks to identify the implicit challenges its failings pose for traditional scholarly practice.
