Abstract

In a reinvestigation of the nucleon-nucleon initiated isoscalar single-pion production we noted that the upper limits for the decay of the dibaryon resonance [Formula presented] into the isoscalar [Formula presented] channel via the routes [Formula presented] and [Formula presented] are a factor of two smaller than given in Ref. [1]. The reason is that the isoscalar single-pion production cross section [Formula presented] derived in Ref. [1] by the relation [1–3]: [Formula presented] is twice the isoscalar part of the pn-induced single-pion production cross section [Formula presented], i.e. [3]: [Formula presented] In Ref. [1] the quantity [Formula presented] has been plotted in Fig. 7. Based on this figure the upper limits for the hypothetical [Formula presented] decays were determined. However, the relevant cross section for the routes [Formula presented] and [Formula presented] is not [Formula presented], but [Formula presented]. Hence the upper limits for these routes are a factor of two smaller than given in Ref. [1] leading thus to upper limits (90% C.L.) of 5% and 7%, respectively, for the branching ratios of the respective decays of [Formula presented]. This result excludes [Formula presented] as major intermediate decay configuration and restricts a possible [Formula presented] configuration to less than 25% [4].
