Abstract

High-spin states in the neutron-deficient I113 nucleus have been investigated for the first time using the Ni58(58Ni,3p) reaction. Gamma-ray coincidence data were acquired with the Eurogam spectrometer in conjunction with the Daresbury recoil mass separator. A deformed intruder band has been established extending to a spin approaching 40Latin small letter h with stroke and excitation energy 30 MeV. A possible structure for the band is discussed. This is the first evidence for such a band in this mass region with Z>51.
