Abstract

Summary form only given. Recent advances have led to the production of arrays of high quality thin dielectric and metallic films. In parallel with these developments, there is currently considerable interest in a number of processes arising at close proximity to dielectric film structures. We focus here on spontaneous emission and pair cooperative phenomena in a regular array of thin metallic films separated by a dielectric. The theory can conveniently be formulated in terms of real space electric field Green functions. The derivations of these Green functions, as far as we know, have not been undertaken before and are thus of interest in their own right. We quote here, for illustration purposes, one of the Green functions.
