Abstract

Considers the process whereby an influx of relatively wealthy people pushes out the lower paid. Describes this process as gentrification and displacement and seeks to define these terms. Highlights the social problems associated with this process. Seeks to assess the extent to which it takes place in Britain, and to assess the social cost. Suggests there is a need for more research on this subject. 11 references.
