Abstract

A new distributed channel assignment scheme is described, called Unsupervised FDMA (UFDMA) which makes use of a coexistence etiquette. Results are presented which show that call set up time varies linearly with number of channels to be scanned and that calls can be set up within 0.8s when up to 20 frequency channels are used, for a channel scan rate of 20ms/channel. A lower bound on the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) distribution at the receivers of fixed length UFDMA links is derived analytically. Analytical and simulated results are compared for a hypothetical urban environment with a path loss dependency of r4 and lognormal shadow fading.
