Abstract

Experience has shown that it is difficult to persuade students to engage in rote exercises; however extended periods of practice solving basic theory problems are essential to developing the familiarity with the principles of electronics that will allow them to quickly appreciate more advanced topics. This paper evaluates a study to motivate students to engage with practice exercises by providing an element of competition, along with immediate feedback. The preliminary results reported here are very promising, and show a significant increase in the number of problems attempted as well as an improvement in examination results.
